THE STRONGHOLD BETWEEN FAILURE AND SUCCESS.

It’s everybody’s phenomenon to celebrate and reward his or herself on achieving some heart desires. But when was the last time you rewarded yourself for failing? Probably never! Instead, you get disappointed and your desire to achieve that goal gradually dims.

Come to think of it, have you ever had a deep thought about the possible bond between failure and success? If not, PERSISTENCE is the basic bond. Take a critical look at this instance, influential personalities like the Adenugas’, Arisekolas’ to mention a few actually had the idea for business. They had there ways rough to achieving this. It came a time; stumbling blocks became their stepping stones. They got their victory because they persisted and focused on their dreams. They embraced failure and made judicious use of the lessons learnt from it to succeed.

I would recommend four (4) secrets for turning your failures into success by Richard Fenton which would help ignite your desire to be persistent in the pursuit of your set goals.

1. CHANGE YOUR MENTAL MODEL OF SUCCESS AND FAILURE. Don’t see yourself in between success & failure like this: SUCCESS - YOU- FAILURE but rather, view it as YOU – FAILURE- SUCCESS.

2. INTENTIONALLY INCREASE YOUR FAILURE RATE. You can adopt the ‘GO for NO’ concept i.e. the more people tell you ‘no’, the closer you will get to ultimate success. In other words, the more people tell you ‘no’ now, the more people telling you ‘yes’ in the long term.

3. CELEBRATE YOUR FAILURES NOT JUST SUCCESSES. This definitely would enable you persist in that pursuit of your goal. For instance, if you purchase yourself a bottle of soft drink after every success you make, do that also when you fail. Then, say to yourself that ‘I am a step closer to successes.

4. SEE COURAGE AS A MUSCLE. No matter how though the going may be, have courage within yourself that you will succeed in that pursuit of yours. This would encourage you to persist more.
Finally, to achieve significant excellence in today’s world, failure wouldn’t be just a possibility, but a requirement. Your ability to keep on trying would definitely drive you into achieving an outstanding success in that pursuit of yours.

HOW TO STAND OUT AMONGST YOUR PEERS.

Being different simply means being a maverick; indulging in activities that are not common among the individuals in your peer group. That is not to say you should try to force yourself to do things you don’t like doing. Simply, discover yourself. Once you have done that, the next line of action is to develop the line of interest in which you find yourself.

Developing yourself in that line could just be indulging in those things i.e. making sure you set your leisure time to doing or practising these activities. For instance, if you discover yourself that you love playing football, the first step is to engage or register yourself in a local team which could just be in your neighborhood. As time goes on, try to learn from the mistakes of your opponents or even your fellow teammates. This would go a long way in building your potential as a football player.

Along the line, try to look for professionals in your locality who you can just ask to watch you play on the pitch. Respectfully and with utmost humility, ask their opinions about your performance and kindly ask him or her to build you against making those mistakes. As you make progress, you can adopt the person as your mentor. Constantly challenge yourself by registering in professional clubs; it would help refine your talent. I bet that if you really devote your mind, body and soul to it, you will reach the desired height.

Success as defined by Pastor Julius Eniolu of the Lighthouse Christian Centre, U.K, “is not an achievement but a process.” Look deep into this and you would realize that success is attained step by step and not suddenly. If you find among your peers none of your intellectual capacity, leave such a group. You will never get better. There will be no challenges. Instead, associate yourself with a competing group of peers. In that way, it would help you to think more, research more and through this you will find yourself wanting to achieve more.

THE WEALTH AWAITING YOU ON THE INTERNET.

In the world of rapid modernization, the use of computer and internet connection is fast becoming a necessity.

Even the remote parts of the world are now having access to the network enabled computers. Little wonder the world is now tagged “a global village.”

Over the years, studies have shown that majority of internet users basically use the
internet for two things: e-mail and chatting. Only a minute fraction of the whole population of internet users make use of the internet for other tasks such as online shopping, research and business.

As youths, there are many ways you can use the internet for your benefits. But for the purpose of this piece, I’ll just point out how you can use the internet to gain some financial freedom.

Internet business also known as home-based business, are business opportunities that can be accessed through the use of a computer and an internet connection.

Home-based business is actually not a new business model. In fact, it has been in existence since the invention of the internet. As a result, so many entrepreneurs now earn a living by exclusively working online.

There are certain unique benefits one can access by working online. These include little or no capital, setting your own working schedules, limitless income (you earn as much as the time you invest), and absolute freedom (you only work we you choose to).

Fortunately, starting up an internet business does not require an arm or leg. A little search on search engines such as google.com will give you different ideas on how to “monetize your computer.”

Another advantage is the fact that you do not need a shop or an office to conduct your internet business. In fact, you do not even need to own a personal computer or a private internet connection to start up a profitable internet business. Some few hours a week in public cafes can effectively substitute a PC and a private internet access.

Perhaps you’re wondering what type of business you can get involved in. I’ll say that the list is endless. Not all are profitable though.

In case you want to get started, I’ll recommend you start with businesses such as

BLOGGING: This means creating a free mini-website with Google platform (www.blogger.com) and monetizing it by allowing Google to serve related adverts to the blog. In this case, you get paid each time a visitor visits your site and click on the adverts. Setting up a blog is easy and only takes about 10 minutes.

Freelance jobs: You can choose to become a freelancer that offers writing services to the ever demanding internet community. In rendering your services, you’ll be charging a price that seems fair to you.

Note, never visit any website without this (https ://). The‘s’ signifies secured site, which means safe from fraudulent posts and adds.

SEVEN CORE PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS.

Success is not reserved for the privilege few. It results from cultivating certain positive habits and following through consistently.
Every single person has the capacity to be successful in every area of his or her life.
Successful people adopt a certain personality profile. They think, talk and act in certain ways, all of which can be condensed into seven principles.
Act on them with faith, persistence and determination and in no time, you will become a winner like other successful people! Below are the seven principles of success.

Set a clear vision.
This is the starting point to success. Think through and develop a clear vision of what exactly you want to achieve in life. One example is wanting to become a surgeon. Carry this vision in your mind at all times.

Define your goal.
The vision you set is the ultimate destination, which in this example is to become a surgeon. The goal sets the journey you need to undertake in order to arrive at the destination.
Using the example, assuming you have just completed your secondary school education, what you need next is to enroll in a junior college which on completion will qualify you to pursue a course in Medicine in a university.
Other consideration for the short term journey includes the need to obtain or set aside the necessary finance to complete your medical studies in the university.
These are the short term goals you need to formulate after thinking through in order for you to arrive at your final destination. Short term goals are like the resources you need to reach your final destination. Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely (SMART).

Plan your work and work your plan.
Work out a plan of action to reach both the short and long term goals. Break down your plan into smaller tasks or units especially if the task is too big. Sometimes you have to take a detour or longer time to reach one of your destinations.
It is okay. For example, if you do not do well in one subject in junior college and it is a compulsory subject for admission to the University for a Medical Course, you may have to do supplementary studies or repeat that subject.
Be conscious of your vision at all times. When you act with faith, determination and persistence, in alignment with your short and long term goals there is only one outcome- success.

Commit to action.
Make a firm commitment to action. Once you take action, stay committed and never give up. Once you deter in your commitment, your belief becomes shaky, and unstable. If you do that, your effort would just fall apart like a pack of cards.
You would have wasted all the time and energy you invested in your efforts. So, stay committed.

Use positive affirmations.
Form and write your positive affirmations that support the vision you have set, using short positive direct phrases in the present tense only.
Make a habit of repeating affirmations several times each day, especially just before sleeping (while lying on bed).
Say and repeat your affirmations mentally or aloud if it doesn’t disturb others. This will help to sustain your faith and persistence.

Eliminate negative influences.
Stay away from negative influences such as negative people, books, articles, etc. Surround yourself with things and people that boost your belief that you will succeed. Believe in a higher power residing in self that has been giving you whatever you need.

Maintain an attitude of gratitude.
Have faith that your vision is becoming a reality. Look around you and be grateful for things that you already have such as home, loving family, e.t.c. Just stay grateful. Give your time, money and service to others in need. Be kind and generous to all.

PROCRASTINATION

Millions of people worldwide today are not aware of this dangerous parasite, ‘procrastination’ that attaches itself to mankind and yet everybody keeps on going on business as usual.
As a result of this, procrastination operates so silently and smoothly that no one notices it until it chokes life out of its victim.
Procrastination comes from a Latin word called procratinato which in effect means putting off or delaying action particularly on things that require urgent action or attention.
A person can be in a state of procrastination if he is infected with the disease named ‘I WILL DO IT LATER’.
He is being deceived that there will always be another time, though the present time is not being judiciously utilized.
In another sense, procrastination can be called the ‘THIEF OF TIME’ meaning the time for the postponed work has been stolen and for the work to be done, the time for another thing has to be utilized for it.
Procrastination in its ordinary sense seems to be harmless but it is rather unfortunate that countless numbers all over the world are groaning under its yoke. There is always an imagination that the mind of a person constructs if he wants to find an excuse for not doing a particular thing at a particular time.
This imagination simply gives him a strong assurance of doing it another time but forgetting the fact that the postponed time can only be trusted if the will of God tallies with his over that particular issue.
Come to think of it, procrastination has made millions of ideas, plans, visions and dreams go down the drain and ending up its victims in various cemeteries across the globe but for the fact that it is the final resting place of great but unactualised dreams.
That is, dreams that never came to reality. It would also interest you that the best brains, multinational business empires, the sleekest car inventors, the best children ever are been housed in millions of cemeteries all over the world.
The time to really launch out into something worthwhile is now, and not tomorrow or day after.
Reason being that dreams and plans are time compliant and if immediate steps are not carried out, it just dies down or blow away like the scent of a smoke.

SHOWING GRATITUDE

Do you know a simple THANK YOU can change your life for the better?

There was a guy who really worked hard for his boss. He really did his work diligently with uptmost respect saying a simple thank you with great enthusiasm to every little gesture his boss did for him.

Little did he know that some day he would be rewarded for this act of thankfullness.

Believe you me, He was actually on his way to his place of work when he busted into a friend of his. He had actually been looking for him for a very long time and wants him to replace his post as the C.E.O of his company since he would be relocating to the UNITED KINGDOM.

Lessons from this tells that you never might tell what fate could bring to you anyday. The best way to this is to show appreciation for any little gesture you are given.

TURN PASSION TO MONEY.

Do you know that the passion you derive in engaging in what you love doing best (i.e. your hobby) could fetch you a life time fortune?
Certainly YES! Typical examples of proudly Nigerian citizens who have turned passion to money are the likes of Gbenga Adeyinka, Alibaba, and Derele to mention a few.
These people have utilized their abilities to make people laugh by cracking rib breaking jokes to establish a hobby made business which in turn is producing much money into their pockets.
It would also amaze you that they are being paid for the service they are rendering out of passion. It’s a life time investment these people have established by using comedy to earn a living.
Also, take a look at the soccer world, so many Nigerian footballers such as Okocha, Joseph Yobo, Mikel Obi to mention a few are earning a fortune both home and abroad by just utilizing their passion for football playing.
Though football is full of a skill which has to be acquired through constant practice, you’ve got to posses the passion before you can actually build on the skills.
Another instance of hobbyist who has turned passion to money is U.A.C FOODS. The initiator of this company must have derived a passion for baking or cooking. And by sharing his ideas with like minds of his, and working with a team having a focus, the company came to reality.
Come to think of it, hardly would you go anywhere without finding the company’s products and they are being patronized well.
A life time income is being realized daily by the initiator of the company by just utilizing the passion for baking or cooking and further on building on an idea to establishing a company to that effect.
The mind blowing issue about this hobby turned business is that it gives room for helping others in the sense that it brings employment opportunities for others.
Taking U.A.C. FOODS for instance, for the mass production of its products, it needs various capable hands to really reach its targets and finally its consumers.
So, the employment of capable hands to bring out the desired result would be highly needed.
On a final note, as a youth or other people that derive passion in engaging in activities they love doing at leisure times or just find themselves doing that particular thing severally should endeavour to build on it because it might not only generate a means of income to you when the white collar jobs keep far distance from you but could also create avenue for job seekers to get jobs when the passion to write, sing, dance, do business, make designs, make arts and crafts, plait hair(plaiting), cut hair(barbing), make repairs of spoilt items, to mention a few has been realized to its fullest where more hands would be needed to strengthen its effectiveness.
Remember that BELIEVING IN YOURSELF IS THE GREATEST TOOL TO ACHIEVEING SUCCESS IN ALL YOU DO. .

MOTIVATION, AN INSTRUMENT TO SUCCESS

Achieving success in life is determined by so many factors and as it is, motivation is one of the key factors to realizing a successful life.
Motivation is a driving force that makes you to do something positive disregarding physical factors that might want to deprive you from achieving a set goal. Even the oxford dictionary defines motivation as ‘making somebody wants to do something especially something that involves hard work and effort’.
The driving force attached to motivation could be gotten in so many different ways:
1. It could come through your submission to God’s authority i.e. trusting in Him and putting Him first in all your doings.
2. It could come through associating yourself with people of great values and substance who have achieved lots of great things in life and could be adopted by you as your role models or mentors.
3. It could also come through self confidence i.e. having the belief that you can do it, you can achieve it.
4. It could also come by reading books related to your life ambitions and also motivational writings from prolific writers that would lift your spirit to achieving excellence.

It also assists to guide you along the road to achieving success in those set goals of yours and also shaping your life aspirations to its full realization.
The detriments of lack of motivation in a life could bring about mediocrity in that person’s dealings. For instance, a person who is good at writing fiction stories and lacks motivation in these aspects might produce not well enough result with his ability.

2. Using kind and encouraging words.
3. Close monitoring and supervision.
These could go a long way to getting an individual motivated because it makes the individual feel a sense of value and through this, hidden treasures, ideas, talents could begin to show up in the individual and your ability to back up the individual with these three (3) ways would not only save him, the nation but change the lives of the people around for the better.
Finally, MOTIVATION yields success. So your ability to get it through the Most High God, self, family, friends, or mentors who are positive minded is a clinical instrument to accomplishing great ideas, dreams and most importantly, living a successful life.

BECOMING A FINANCIALLY STABLE YOUTH.

As the only boy in a family of five, Oladapo enjoyed wholesome benefits of being the only son in the family. He had what he wanted at the snap of his fingers from his parents and even over joyous relatives far and near extended their kind hand of gestures by providing so many material things mostly money to him.

He enjoyed and had a nice time growing up even to his youthful age. Hardly did he ever think that the hands of time may change to the extent that the whole happy scene of his might be put to a halt someday. At his early 20’s, his parents began to experience hard times financially and even the relatives who exchange hands of kind gestures with him began to withdraw speedily. At a time, everything came to a standstill that he hardly was able to survive the hard times.

You see, I know you wouldn’t want to be in Oladapo’s shoes because the happy times all ended in a very ugly manner. Come to think of it, assuming Oladapo had established the art of saving, he wouldn’t have fallen into this kind of situation. You know, growing up as a child to the adolescent and up to the youthful age, you experience so many gestures ranging from material things such as money, gifts and so on. It is expected that parts and if not all of these should be saved well because you never can tell what kind of situation would warrant this act of yours.

Becoming a financially stable youth starts from the very tender age and the only key to realizing this is inculcating and establishing the art of saving in yourself. It doesn’t matter if you had age long shied from the art of saving. You could start now.

There are so many benefits attached to this act which ranges from;

Ø Living a financially stable life after a degree at the university during the period when you are in the search for a job.

Ø Living a well planned and successful future when the whole lot after years of saving is being invested in the purchase of shares and securities which could serve as a means of quarterly or yearly income for you.

Ø Earning a living by establishing a business of your own where the whole lot being saved could be added to support the capital you want to use to start.

Ø Serving as an added supplement to your financial upkeep in school in case your parent’s financial status turns poor.

Ø Making you reduce your spending habits by adopting the scale of preference approach.

Ø Helping you develop managerial skill as this would later in future contribute immensely to your financial life.

These and many more benefits can be derived only if you embrace the art of saving because those who have lived or are living a financially stable life as youths made sacrifices and the art of saving is one.

REVIVING THE SPIRIT OF HONESTY.

In the past, dissemination of information and fact finding was a great challenge for most people especially the youths who needed to make different researches on various topics pertaining to their course of study, people’s way of life, and sometimes the ecosystem i.e. the environment we all live in.
Little did we know that all these problems we faced in our quest to getting solutions to most of these researches is going to be a thing of the past until the advent of the internet.
So many of us are now exposed to the various uses of the World Wide Web as it now solves many of the problems we encounter when making researches. We all give kudos to the originator of the internet till date. But because of the vast use of this powerful machine of our time which has made almost all things pertaining to information easily assessable, some youths have devised various fraudulent ways of its use ranging from cybercrimes such as illegal hacking of accounts, duping of valuables such as money from various individuals, faking of identity online, scamming and many other cyber related offences.
Many cyber café operators have been closed down because of police harassment or have adopted strict conditions on its services to the public just because of the devastating use of the internet mostly by some of us. Recently, five undergraduates were arrested by the police for various cybercrimes.
We need to look deep down inside of ourselves and have a great re-think as the future leaders of tomorrow. This unholy verge on acquiring fast wealth won’t lead us anywhere. It would only tarnish our reputation slowly and destroy that honest spirit in us. Have you ever had a deep thought on the phrase “what ever you work for lasts for long”? If you have, you would at least agree with me that patience pays.
Let us all embrace the genuine benefits that the internet has got in stock for us as there are more legal ways of making a living online rather than using various dishonest means to get wealthy.
Shun any act of dishonesty in you as being honest has a greater role to play in protecting your identity.

LEARN FROM OTHERS MISTAKES.

The Longman dictionary of contemporary English describes a mistake as something unwise or stupid that someone does and later regrets doing afterwards. It is bound to be made by anybody at any point in time and it is usually followed by a correction. A saying that ‘you learn from your own mistakes’ so that another of that kind would not be made next time is a rampant thought by many people.

But have you ever observed the dangers attributed to this? I mean have you ever witnessed or felt the inconveniences encountered in the quest to learning from your own mistakes?

A 1001 mistakes are made by individuals on hourly, daily or weekly basis and many if not all of these mistakes are being communicated through so many means so as to be aware of them, ways to avoiding or averting such occurrences and the various avenues to making corrections to those mistakes. For instance, many youths are being faced by this ugly situation of learning from their mistakes and to making amendments to this, they sometimes have to go through hardship to correcting themselves and even suffer the detriments or the havoc being caused by their mistakes which might have been the act of taking wrong decisions.

To recover from this old saying which has eaten deep into many minds, we have to reawaken our intelligence quotient as youths by taking a step forward to making positive use of the pieces of information we get about others mistakes.

This would not only improve our sense of responsibility, save us from unnecessary stress in correcting what might have been avoided but prepare us adequately for the challenges we would face in our respective fields and eventually building a greater tomorrow for us all.
