HOW TO STAND OUT AMONGST YOUR PEERS.

Being different simply means being a maverick; indulging in activities that are not common among the individuals in your peer group. That is not to say you should try to force yourself to do things you don’t like doing. Simply, discover yourself. Once you have done that, the next line of action is to develop the line of interest in which you find yourself.

Developing yourself in that line could just be indulging in those things i.e. making sure you set your leisure time to doing or practising these activities. For instance, if you discover yourself that you love playing football, the first step is to engage or register yourself in a local team which could just be in your neighborhood. As time goes on, try to learn from the mistakes of your opponents or even your fellow teammates. This would go a long way in building your potential as a football player.

Along the line, try to look for professionals in your locality who you can just ask to watch you play on the pitch. Respectfully and with utmost humility, ask their opinions about your performance and kindly ask him or her to build you against making those mistakes. As you make progress, you can adopt the person as your mentor. Constantly challenge yourself by registering in professional clubs; it would help refine your talent. I bet that if you really devote your mind, body and soul to it, you will reach the desired height.

Success as defined by Pastor Julius Eniolu of the Lighthouse Christian Centre, U.K, “is not an achievement but a process.” Look deep into this and you would realize that success is attained step by step and not suddenly. If you find among your peers none of your intellectual capacity, leave such a group. You will never get better. There will be no challenges. Instead, associate yourself with a competing group of peers. In that way, it would help you to think more, research more and through this you will find yourself wanting to achieve more.

THE WEALTH AWAITING YOU ON THE INTERNET.

In the world of rapid modernization, the use of computer and internet connection is fast becoming a necessity.

Even the remote parts of the world are now having access to the network enabled computers. Little wonder the world is now tagged “a global village.”

Over the years, studies have shown that majority of internet users basically use the
internet for two things: e-mail and chatting. Only a minute fraction of the whole population of internet users make use of the internet for other tasks such as online shopping, research and business.

As youths, there are many ways you can use the internet for your benefits. But for the purpose of this piece, I’ll just point out how you can use the internet to gain some financial freedom.

Internet business also known as home-based business, are business opportunities that can be accessed through the use of a computer and an internet connection.

Home-based business is actually not a new business model. In fact, it has been in existence since the invention of the internet. As a result, so many entrepreneurs now earn a living by exclusively working online.

There are certain unique benefits one can access by working online. These include little or no capital, setting your own working schedules, limitless income (you earn as much as the time you invest), and absolute freedom (you only work we you choose to).

Fortunately, starting up an internet business does not require an arm or leg. A little search on search engines such as google.com will give you different ideas on how to “monetize your computer.”

Another advantage is the fact that you do not need a shop or an office to conduct your internet business. In fact, you do not even need to own a personal computer or a private internet connection to start up a profitable internet business. Some few hours a week in public cafes can effectively substitute a PC and a private internet access.

Perhaps you’re wondering what type of business you can get involved in. I’ll say that the list is endless. Not all are profitable though.

In case you want to get started, I’ll recommend you start with businesses such as

BLOGGING: This means creating a free mini-website with Google platform (www.blogger.com) and monetizing it by allowing Google to serve related adverts to the blog. In this case, you get paid each time a visitor visits your site and click on the adverts. Setting up a blog is easy and only takes about 10 minutes.

Freelance jobs: You can choose to become a freelancer that offers writing services to the ever demanding internet community. In rendering your services, you’ll be charging a price that seems fair to you.

Note, never visit any website without this (https ://). The‘s’ signifies secured site, which means safe from fraudulent posts and adds.

SEVEN CORE PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS.

Success is not reserved for the privilege few. It results from cultivating certain positive habits and following through consistently.
Every single person has the capacity to be successful in every area of his or her life.
Successful people adopt a certain personality profile. They think, talk and act in certain ways, all of which can be condensed into seven principles.
Act on them with faith, persistence and determination and in no time, you will become a winner like other successful people! Below are the seven principles of success.

Set a clear vision.
This is the starting point to success. Think through and develop a clear vision of what exactly you want to achieve in life. One example is wanting to become a surgeon. Carry this vision in your mind at all times.

Define your goal.
The vision you set is the ultimate destination, which in this example is to become a surgeon. The goal sets the journey you need to undertake in order to arrive at the destination.
Using the example, assuming you have just completed your secondary school education, what you need next is to enroll in a junior college which on completion will qualify you to pursue a course in Medicine in a university.
Other consideration for the short term journey includes the need to obtain or set aside the necessary finance to complete your medical studies in the university.
These are the short term goals you need to formulate after thinking through in order for you to arrive at your final destination. Short term goals are like the resources you need to reach your final destination. Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely (SMART).

Plan your work and work your plan.
Work out a plan of action to reach both the short and long term goals. Break down your plan into smaller tasks or units especially if the task is too big. Sometimes you have to take a detour or longer time to reach one of your destinations.
It is okay. For example, if you do not do well in one subject in junior college and it is a compulsory subject for admission to the University for a Medical Course, you may have to do supplementary studies or repeat that subject.
Be conscious of your vision at all times. When you act with faith, determination and persistence, in alignment with your short and long term goals there is only one outcome- success.

Commit to action.
Make a firm commitment to action. Once you take action, stay committed and never give up. Once you deter in your commitment, your belief becomes shaky, and unstable. If you do that, your effort would just fall apart like a pack of cards.
You would have wasted all the time and energy you invested in your efforts. So, stay committed.

Use positive affirmations.
Form and write your positive affirmations that support the vision you have set, using short positive direct phrases in the present tense only.
Make a habit of repeating affirmations several times each day, especially just before sleeping (while lying on bed).
Say and repeat your affirmations mentally or aloud if it doesn’t disturb others. This will help to sustain your faith and persistence.

Eliminate negative influences.
Stay away from negative influences such as negative people, books, articles, etc. Surround yourself with things and people that boost your belief that you will succeed. Believe in a higher power residing in self that has been giving you whatever you need.

Maintain an attitude of gratitude.
Have faith that your vision is becoming a reality. Look around you and be grateful for things that you already have such as home, loving family, e.t.c. Just stay grateful. Give your time, money and service to others in need. Be kind and generous to all.
